Excellent Advice For Giving Your Garden A Makeover.

In addition to the food gardening can provide for our table, it adds beauty to our world. Gardening is something that is shared by all cultures and all time periods. It is something that is taken up by people from all walks of life. While there are many consistent rules inherent in this hobby, there is also room for variation. These tips will provide a brief look at both.

Sod should be laid correctly. Before laying the sod, have your soil prepared. Take out any weeds, then mix up the soil into a tilth that is fine. When the soil is clean, pack it tightly and create a flat surface. Gently sprinkle water on the soil until you are certain that it is thoroughly moistened. Be sure to stagger the rows of sod. The joints should be offset like bricks in a wall. Firm sod until there is an even, flat surface; fill in gaps with soil. Water the sod everyday for the first two weeks until the roots grow enough.

Don’t underestimate perennials in making your gardening life easier. Perennials will continue to come back every year and will only require minimal maintenance such as weeding and fertilizing. You’ll save time by not having to plant and care for seedlings or starts. Different perennials will perform better in different climates, but sorrel greens and horseradish should work almost anywhere.

Choose plants and flowers that complement the colors of your home. Flowers that are pink or fuchsia, may go very well with your burgundy shudders. Tying in the colors of plants and flowers that you choose to harmonize with your house, will save you a lot of time at the garden center by simplifying your plant choices.

A good idea when gardening is to keep a record of progress. If it is a journal form or photographic form of recording the progress of the garden is helpful for the years to come. Recording which types of plants work well, which did not work or what types of soil can help future gardens start without any trial and error of previous years.

It is important that you not forget to water your garden on a regular basis, especially when it is hot. If your plants do not get enough water, roots stay near the surface which can kill your plants or cause them to take even longer to grow. About an inch of water a week is sufficient.

When mowing your lawn, avoid mowing the grass too short. Cutting your grass at a taller height allows grass roots to grow deeper and stronger, which helps lessen the chance of your lawn drying out easily. When grass is cut too low the roots will not grow as deep, and your lawn may suffer from brown patches.

Even a small investment of time and effort to gardening activities is sure to be greatly rewarded. Those rewards may come in food to feed our families or in flowers and other decorative plants to beautify our environment. Everyone can reap these rewards. The tips that are outlined above will get us started in that direction.
